This year marks the 35th anniversary of the World Wide Web: on 6 August 1991, Tim Berners-Lee posted a short summary of the World Wide Web project to an internet newsgroup inviting collaborators. In the meantime the Web has become an essential part of society. Part of that is that huge amounts of information that used to be available on paper is now available electronically. One of the dangers is that owners of information often treat the data as temporary, and delete it once it becomes out of date. As a result society is at risk of losing large parts of its history. It’s time to consider how we use the web and ensure that what we create today can still be accessed and read 100 years from now.
